What to write
Each of these fits on the back of the card. Borrow one, or paste it into the writing assistant and make it yours.
- Thank you for a perfect weekend. The guest room, the coffee on the porch, the way you let us do nothing at all. We're still talking about the lasagna.
- Thanksgiving at your place was the best one in years. Thank you for cooking for fourteen people and acting like it was nothing. Next year is on us.

- You opened your home to us for a week during the hardest month we've had. Thank you. We'll never be able to repay it, but we'll try.
- Thanks for having us over Friday. Great food, better company. Here's the photo from the deck, since you asked for it.

Why a real card
- Etiquette says a mailed note within a week of the visit. Almost nobody does it anymore, which is exactly why it lands.
- The photo from the visit is the whole point. They hosted it; they'll want the picture.
- You can send it from the airport on the way home. It arrives before you've unpacked.

Questions
How soon should I send a hostess thank you?
Within a week is the traditional answer. Sending it the day you leave is easier and arrives faster.
Is a postcard formal enough?
A printed photo postcard with a handwritten-style note is warmer than most folded cards. For a very formal host, a folded note is traditional; for friends and family, a photo card is the one they'll keep.
