Thank you note to a coach: 15 end-of-season messages from parents and players

Volunteer coaches give up every Saturday for months and almost never get thanked in writing. The end of the season is the moment. Put the team photo on the front, one of these on the back, and send it the week of the last game.

Coach Reyes, thank you for a season that was about more than wins. Lucas learned to lose without quitting, and that came from you. See you in the spring.

What to say

Thank them for the time. Name one thing your kid learned or one moment you noticed. Say something about next season or the future. Three sentences. Have your kid add a line in their own words if they're old enough; coaches say those are the ones they keep.

From a parent

  • Coach Reyes, thank you for a season that was about more than wins. Lucas learned to lose without quitting, and that came from you. See you in the spring.
  • You gave up every Saturday morning for four months for a bunch of eight-year-olds. We noticed. Thank you from all of the Thompsons.
  • Thank you for seeing something in Maya before she saw it herself. She wants to try out for the travel team now. That's you.
  • Thank you for the patience with a kid who'd never held a bat. He's hooked. We're grateful.
  • You never yelled, even when they deserved it, and they'd run through a wall for you. Thank you for a great season.
  • Thank you for making practice the best part of her week. We'll be back next year, and so will she.

From a player

  • Coach, thanks for teaching me to keep my head up after a bad game. I'm going to remember that. See you next season.
  • Thank you for putting me in goal even when I was scared. I'm not scared anymore. From Eli.
  • Thanks for the best season ever. You're the best coach I've had. From Sofia, number 7.
  • Thank you for believing I could make the shot. I did. From Marcus.

From the whole team

  • To Coach Dan, from the whole team: thanks for the rides, the snacks, the patience, and for never yelling even when we deserved it.
  • From the 2026 Tigers: thank you, Coach. We won some, we lost some, we had the best season of our lives. See you next year.
  • Thank you from every family on the team. You made this season something our kids will remember. We're lucky to have you.

To a high school or college coach

  • Thank you for four years of pushing me harder than I wanted and exactly as hard as I needed. I'm a different person because of it.
  • Coach, thank you for the lessons that had nothing to do with the sport. Those are the ones I use every day.

The photo

Use the team photo, a shot from the last game, or your kid in uniform. If every family sends a card with a different photo from the season, the coach ends up with a photo album. That's the best gift a volunteer coach gets.
